Demonstration plant WST in Ronneby
Ronneby Miljö & Teknik AB is a municipal company that is wholly owned by the municipality of Ronneby. Their goal is to combine environmental responsibility with economic efficiency. They are currently preparing the installation of a Wet Steam Turbine for electricity production on the existing district heating plant.
Sörbyverket
Ronneby Miljö & Teknik AB is a municipal company that is wholly-owned by the municipality of Ronneby. They manage power, heat, water, sewage, sanitation, fiber optic networks and broadband. Sörbyverket, the regional district heating plant, is operated by the subsidiary company, Ronneby Miljöteknik Energi AB. They are currently building a Wet Steam Turbine (WST). Through the possibility of producing renewable electricity in Sörbyverket, the corporation will be self-sufficient in electricity.
Ronneby Miljö & Teknik have chosen to install a WST since the boiler of Sörbyverket has the opportunity of steam production. The existing system in Ronneby is currently being adapted to enable a connection of the WST.
The changes that needs to be done are mainly modification of the boiler circulation and existing steam dome. Safety equipment, dryout protection, etc. needs to be supplemented and upgraded. In addition, the boiler needs to be supplemented with feed water system consisting of feed water, feed water pump and safety valves. In total, Sörbyverket will use 65 % of the generated power, selling the remaining electricity within the corporation group.
The WST will be delivered to Sörbyverket in the beginning of October 2016.
WST
A Wet Steam Turbine (WST) is relatively easy to implement - the upgrade takes place in the boiler water circuit without extensive reconstruction of the boiler. Compared to conventional steam turbines, WST can operate at lower pressure and lower temperature.
WST is a more robust and a less high-efficiency turbine and which
unlike conventional turbines, even can handle some water particles.
